We’ve talked a little about spring this year, but it hasn’t seemed very “springy” lately. The local weather man just keeps those cool temperatures coming, but we have HOPE! Eventually spring is going to come to stay (at least until summer shows up!) and we’ll all be enjoying those mild, sunny days in our gardens and the out-of-doors.
Some folks have already fired up their lawn mowers and weeders, but if you haven’t, here are some things to keep in mind. Not only does your mower need a good cleaning from time to time from the build-up of grass clippings under the deck, but your outdoor unit will also need those grass clippings cleared away. All kinds of stuff can clog your unit’s “breathing” ability, so give it a good hosing off when you see it looking dirty. Rake or sweep away dirt, grass, and other yard debris. Don’t let wasps or ants set up housekeeping in it either. It’s amazing how much damage just a tiny little ant can cause.
Don’t forget Fido! Your cute little doggie (or big doggie) can cause some mighty expensive repairs if he’s hiking his leg against that outdoor system. That urine is toxic to heat and air systems causing serious corrosion if not quickly removed. We suggest you make a small enclosure around your outdoor unit to make Fido keep his distance if they’re going to be sharing the same area. Just make sure it doesn’t restrict the air flow.
