With all the expense of the holidays sapping our wallets, it's nice to know there are still some things we can do ourselves to avoid having to ask for a service call. We understand what it's like, so we're offering a few ideas that you may find useful to take care of some of the easier maintenance issues with your heat and air before Christmas.
If your heat and air unit stops working (especially when guests are in the house) it can be a very stressful time. Take our easy checklist to see if you can't handle this little problem yourself and be the hero of the family! First--check the power source--looked for a tripped breaker or blown fuse (you may need to check your unit's manual on this one). Second--check your thermostat--turn it up five degrees and see if it makes a difference. If you have to turn it up a lot, then you need to call a pro. Third--reset the furnace--some furnaces reset button is near the motor housing unit. Wait 30 minutes and see if anything happens. If you try it several times and nothing works, give us a call. Fourth--check fuel levels--if you have an oil furnace, make sure you have enough oil to operate the system. If it's gas then check to make sure your gas supply is on. Fifth--clean/change the filter--it may be as simple as that. You'd be surprised how much dirt and grime can clog a system, especially if you have pets in the house, so don't forget this simple item that can often be overlooked.
