We've all heard the old adage, "Be sure and read the fine print!" Well, it turns out there's something to that. Most companies always have a paragraph or two of fine print that can determine whether you have a good day or a bad one when you call for service.
If you purchased a new system, you know they're not cheap. Air Care Systems by Price, Inc.advises you to be sure you keep accurate records and receipts on any service you have done. Some companies advertise a 10-year parts warranty or even a lifetime compressor warranty, but you must have your unit registered online or they will automatically default to a 5-year warranty after 60 days. They count on you not being able to find that information should a problem arise. Air Care Systems takes care of filling out those registration forms for our customers, but many companies do not. Be sure you check to see that this step has been completed if you purchase your system elsewhere.
It's becoming standard procedure to require proof of maintenance before a manufacturer will honor a warranty on parts when submitted by a heat and air company. If the homeowner has failed to have regular system check-ups performed, (usually a minimum of one check-up per year) then that warranty becomes null and void for failure to provide routine maintenance. It works the same as your car. If you never change the oil or check the belts and hoses for wear, the manufacturer is not going to replace a burned up engine because you were negligent in performing regular care. A car dealership will charge over $100 per hour for labor and you have to take your vehicle to them where they work on it in their own environmentally controlled shop.
A heat and air service technician has to drive to your home and work in all kinds of weather and conditions, so be courteous! They will have all your service records and be able to back up any claims against the warranty with the documents required by the manufacturer.
